Mission Statement

Adopt Kids, Incorporated's mission is to make a positive contribution to the adoption community by providing quality, adoption support services to clients seeking placements through other programs. This will be accomplished by facilitating adoption support services in a timely, professional manner with an emphasis on high moral and ethical standards. We will know that this mission has been accomplished when successful adoptions occur and the welfare of children has been placed as a top priority.

Our History

AKI was established in 2000. The Director/Owner, Heather Basse has worked in the adoption field since 1991. She founded AKI after identifying a need for a small agency that would invest individual time and personal attention to meet the needs of people seeking to adopt (and to be adopted). AKI does not place children. We do however have a positive relationship with a network of adoption agencies and attorneys who contact us from time to time with children they wish to place. When that occurs we merely pass along that information to our clients who can then decide whether or not they want to pursue that lead. (We typically do not contact clients who are already committed to a placing program). AKI staff is very familiar with a variety of adoption options and educate and refer clients to programs that appear to be a good match. Meanwhile, we assist clients in getting a home study completed. After the adoption has taken place we complete whatever follow up services are required (such as post-adoption and/or court appearances). Since our focus is on support services we have significant flexibility and frequently offer evening and weekend meeting times and fast completion of reports. We strongly believe we provide some of the most timely, affordable and professional services in our area.

Heather Basse is a licensed social worker (LCSW in Missouri and LICSW in Washington State). She has extensive adoption experience in the area of domestic, embryo and international adoption. Heather Basse is an adoptive mother. She has been actively involved in a variety of US and overseas projects that support families in need as well as the adoption community. She has traveled extensively to participate in overseas mission and humanitarian projects. Heather and her family are particularly involved in supporting orphans and programs in the country of Togo.
